Our September tour starts slightly above the church of San Pietro di Laion. Trail no. 9 begins on a sharp right-hand bend and leads to the Ramitzler Schwaige Hut. From there, we continue walking along path no. 35, which takes us into the forest. Every now and then, the path reveals views of the Val Gardena and the Valle Isarco, as well as the Sciliar with the Alpe di Siusi and the Sassolungo.

After a pleasant two-hour walk, we reach the Ramitzler Schwaige Hut at an altitude of 1,815 metres. It is well worth stopping here for an apple strudel and a panoramic view. While leisure walkers can linger here, those aiming for the summit are drawn further up towards Mt. Rasciesa di Fuori (Ausserraschötz). To do this, we continue hiking through the forest on path no. 35.

We keep walking until the Rasciesa di Fuori peak comes into view. The wide forest track gradually turns into a well-maintained, stone-paved path that features some quite steep sections. Passing an excellent vantage point, as well as the "Ochsenritt" (literally: ox ride) and the "Hexentisch" (witches' table, a local rock formation), we reach the charming Chapel of the Holy Cross of Rasciesa.

The chapel stands at 2,200 metres a.s.l., leaving us just a few metres of elevation short of the summit. The mighty carved cross is already visible. In fine weather, the 360-degree view from Mt. Rasciesa di Fuori is truly spectacular: the Zillertal Alps, Odle peaks, Sella Group, Marmolada glacier, Sassolungo Group and the Alpe di Siusi - an absolute delight. We return via the same route.
