The final stage of the Chestnut Trail leads via the Sabiona Monastery to Velturno and the Monte Ponente to Bressanone and Varna

In the town of Chiusa, the signpost points towards Branzoll Castle. Passages and stairs from bygone times lead around the castle, then the path continues to the Sabiona Monastery. On the way towards Velturno, the hike leads via the farms of Pardello past vineyards, meadows and chestnut forests. Passing through the district of Pedraz, we reach Velturno village.
At Velturno Castle, the path finally turns left upwards to lead through a gentle meadow landscape further towards the north. Three kilometres later we arrive in Tecelinga, whose special feature is its two churches. They remind us that this area has been settled since time immemorial and that the path earlier served as an important connection when the lowlands of the Valle Isarco were flooded and swampy. The route continues leisurely along the Monte Ponente to Pinzago.
The last section, near the hamlet of Tiles, brings us to below the church hill of St. Cyril. Here the paths separate: The main line of the Chestnut Trail leads via the Burgerbichl hill to Varna, but we decide on the shorter way directly to the Cathedral Square of Bressanone with its Basilica minor.
We have covered almost 90 kilometres since the start in Terlano and experienced a varied, wonderful landscape with a view of the Dolomites. Enjoyment and activity - a promise that the Chestnut Trail can definitely keep on sunny autumn days.
