Riva di Sotto di Monguelfo

In Riva di Sotto, the llamas rule: A few of the cute animals can be seen here in the meadows - they belong to “Val Pusteria Llamas”

A Riva di Sotto in Appiano, a Riva di Sotto in Monguelfo: The small scattered settlement of Riva di Sotto near Monguelfo and Tesido is part of the municipality and is situated directly on the edge of the Anterselva Valley. The addresses here are simply called Riva di Sotto, because there are only a few farms and houses that make up the village. House number 7 marks a very special farm: the Totmoserhof. In the meadows around it, there are no cows and sheep to be seen, but llamas.

Following the ancient loading technique of the Incas, rucksacks and equipment are loaded and the llama trekking with the "Val Pusteria Llamas", also known as "Pustertal Llamas", can begin. Did you know that llamas are a camel species? That's why these frugal animals are suitable for long tours and well prepared - in their homeland, the South American Andes, the trails lead to extreme heights. The fuzzy animals are peaceful and calm and therefore also suitable for older people. Their legendary spitting attacks are about claiming the territory and the position in the group.

Below Riva di Sotto (Unterrain), the Valdaora Reservoir can be seen, and west of the village the Dolomites Panorama Trail passes by. The 9 km round tour starts in Rasun di Sotto and also leads to the Mudler inn beneath the Alpe di Tesido. In winter, due to the proximity to Valdaora and Casies, the Plan de Corones Skiing Area and the cross-country ski network can be reached in a short drive - by car, because the bus only stops in the valley, there where the road leads uphill.
