Riva di Sotto

Riva di Sotto borders on the neighbouring municipality of Andriano and is located in Appiano’s north west.

The little village of Riva di Sotto is idyllically located along the South Tyrolean Wine Route at 347 m asl. Apple orchards as far as the eyes can see make you smell the sweet flavour of the blossoms in spring, when you enjoy a walk or a cycling tour in this fabulous landscape.

The church of Riva di Sotto was consecrated in 1512 to S. Nicolò. This patron saint has been chosen consciously, as S. Nicolò was the guardian of merchants and travellers and this was the place where a former customs station was located. The church tower, however, was added in the 17th century only.

Our tip: as Riva di Sotto is located in the valley basin of the Val d’Adige towards Merano, the Bolzano-Merano cycling path snakes in the surroundings. For this reason we recommend you to make a cycling tour with your family to Merano, a special experience.
