S. Nicolò

Nestling between the lushly green meadows of the Mendola mountain, there is the pilgrimage site of S. Nicolò.

Montevino was the original name of the village of S. Nicolò. Only after the Germanization the patron saint of the church, S. Nicolò, was chosen as the name-giving figure for the village. Located at 569 m asl, S. Nicolò offers calm and relaxation for all the family. Hikes in the surroundings, for example to lake Caldaro, make your holidays in nature even more varied.

Particularly worth noticing are the two steeples in the village. One was constructed in 1880 in order to take te pressure off the decript one, which vibrated when the bells rang. The church itself was constructed in 1521, but already in the 13th century there was a small Romanesque church. Adorned by frescoes of Bartlmä Dill Riemenschneider of 1530, it also boasts a picture with miraculous powers, which started crying in 1733 in one of the neighbouring buildings.

Our tip: make a cycling tour on the road to the Passo Mendola and enjoy the breathtaking view on Caldaro and its lake.
