Brunico stretches between the castle hill on the road to Riscone and the entrance to the Valli di Tures and Aurina valleys at San Giorgio on the other side. In between you will find the charming historic centre with its colourful medieval houses, the pulsating heart of the town. It runs from the Via Ragen di Sopra road to the Ursuline Church and the Tschurtschenthaler Park. Brunico is crossed by the Rienza, which flows past the St. Catherine Church through the Val Pusteria valley.
A coffee in front of medieval facades, a cinema evening at the Odeon Cinecenter, a concert on the newly designed town hall square, an ice cream cup on the shady Bastioni boulevard or a visit to one of the sacred buildings such as the St. Catherine Church - Brunico is as varied as its visitors. Several churches and museums are spread throughout the town, including the Municipal Museum with changing exhibitions and the MMM Ripa dedicated to the mountain people in Brunico Castle, one of the six museums of Reinhold Messner's museum project. This building, which dates back to the founding of the town in the 13th century under Bishop Bruno, provides the ideal backdrop.
Then, punctually at midday, the hustle and bustle is sometimes interrupted by a loud sound: It is the Concordia 2000, the majestic Peace Bell at the summit of the Plan de Corones, that is rung. By the way, you can be active in "Bruneggn", as it was called in local dialect in the past, in the immediate vicinity. In the town itself there is an outdoor swimming pool and a boulder hall, and in winter also an ice skating rink, while cycling and hiking paths run through the surrounding area. The neighbouring Reiperting sports zone in Riscone offers space for playing tennis and golf.
