Colle di Dentro, Colle di Fuori, Planca di Sotto, and Durna in Selva - these are the names of the hamlets you pass when driving from the Val Pusteria into the Casies Valley. Colle Casies (Pichl) is the first of the three villages that together form the municipality of Val Casies. It extends over the entire 22-kilometre-long valley, from Colle, the lowest-lying village, to the slopes of the Villgraten Mountains at the head of the valley. The surrounding peaks provide a protective frame for the valley with its flowering mountain meadows and the local alpine pastures.
Colle Casies also has its own alpine pasture hut: the Hofer Hütte, known locally as the "Houfa Hitte". It is located high above the village, can be reached after an easy hike, and will treat you to excellent home-style cooking. The tour to the small wooden hut with its sun terrace starts in Scandole (Schintlholz). Down on the valley floor, you can enjoy the summer on the Talblickweg, which winds its way through the entire valley, or explore the area on horseback.
For example, Flora, Twister and Gibbly are the names of the sure-footed horses at the "Sun Ranch", allowing you to experience the surroundings from a different perspective. As soon as the first snow falls in late autumn, the Val Casies transforms into a destination for all who enjoy gentle tourism. A particular highlight is the cross-country ski tracks in the valley.
They are connected to Europe's largest cross-country skiing network: Dolomiti Nordicski, stretching between South Tyrol and Cortina d'Ampezzo. Every February, these trails host the Val Casies cross-country ski race. For winter fun off the trails, the Rossbrunn toboggan run, which starts in Planca di Sotto, is one of the popular toboggan runs in the Val Pusteria.
