Sopranessano

The small hamlet of Sopranessano, a component locality of Perca, lies on the slopes above Perca and Nessano

The Italian name for the hamlet, Sopranessano, already reveals its location: It lies above Nessano, as "sopra" means "above". From Nessano, a small mountain road leads up the slope to an altitude of almost 1,500 metres, reaching the border of the Vedrette di Ries-Aurina Nature Park.

Here, many aspens grow, also known as trembling poplars, which once gave the village the name "Aspen". Today, mountain farms are scattered across the sunny meadows, and some of them operate as traditional inns where visitors can stop for a break. One of these is the Niedristhof.

The hamlet can also be reached on foot from Nessano via a steep forest track. Characteristic of the area are small, scattered buildings such as the Redensberg double farmstead, known as Redensberg Hut. There are also natural spots like the ravine of the small Rio Nessano. In winter, the farms of Sopranessano are buried under a thick blanket of snow and become the destination for a hike that provides lovely views. There is no accommodation available in Sopranessano.

Instead, the area primarily features nature, meadows and seasonal produce from farm gardens. The hamlet of Sopranessano should not be confused with another place with the same German name: Rio Lagundo. In German, both are called Aschbach. The village near Merano is accessible by a cable car and is known for its forest adventure trail and the circular hike to the Monte San Vigilio.
