Bagni di Moso, a historic spa resort at the entrance to the Val Fiscalina below the Croda Rossa Meadows
Up the valley from Sesto, in the Waldheim recreation area, you will find the local outdoor swimming pool and the playground in the "Waldile" (little forest). Just beyond them, the small village of Moso di Sesto (Moos in Sexten) comes into view. It is situated between the Rio Fiscalino and the Rio Bianco, two streams that flow into the Drava River further down the valley.
If you follow the Rio Fiscalino, it will accompany you to the Piano Fiscalino plain, and through the Val Sasso Vecchio towards the Three Peaks of Lavaredo. The village became known early on for its location within the nature park and for its springs. The traditional farmers' spa of Bagni di Moso, one of historic health resorts in South Tyrol, became famous for its spring water.
It was documented since 1765 and used for drinking and bathing cures. This was especially true in the 19th century, when the first mountain guides introduced guests to the scenery of the Sesto Dolomites. This heyday came to an end when the Dolomite Front ran directly through the area during the First World War and mountain warfare raged. The soldiers fought not only against each other, but also against the cold and the natural hazards of the high mountains.
Today, the houses, accommodations and shops of Moso are clustered around St. Joseph's Church at the entrance to Val Fiscalina. This valley is considered one of the most beautiful in the Three Peaks Nature Park in the Sesto Dolomites and can only be reached by bus in summer - otherwise, it is accessible on foot or by bicycle. On the edge of Moso, the cable cars to the Croda Rossa begin their ascent. This family-friendly mountain is known for its mountain huts and the Bellum Aquilarum open-air museum. Furthermore, it is part of the 3 Zinnen Dolomites Ski Resort.
