Vandoies di Sopra

The Elves’ Path leads you to the waterfalls of Vandoies di Sopra and into an unspoilt natural landscape

Vandoies di Sopra (Obervintl), literally Upper Vandoies, is connected to the main village of Vandoies di Sotto by a half-hour walk or by public transport. Essentially, two areas await you here: the Lodenwelt, an area with shops, the World of Loden Museum, a fine cheese dairy and, right in the middle, the Lodenwirt restaurant, and the village itself. In the past, the main transport artery of the Val Pusteria valley ran directly through Vandoies di Sopra and Vandoies di Sotto. For some years now, a new bypass has given the two villages a wide berth, restoring their original tranquillity.

The St. Nicholas Church, the kindergarten and the "Dorflodn" (village shop) are grouped on one side of the road, with the farms and houses on the other. One of these is the historic Töpsl Residence. The village's main attraction is the World of Loden Museum with its outdoor enclosure: Here, goats and sheep bleat in competition, while the museum traces the journey from wool to the finished coat. Right next door is the inviting Dairy Adventure World Capriz.

Here, everything revolves not around clothing, but around culinary delights: The goat's cheese produced here is known for its high quality. To the east of the village, the Vandoies di Sopra Waterfalls refresh visitors in the summer. It is a mostly quiet spot, reached by a dedicated themed trail, the Elves' Path. From the Töpslplatz car park in Vandoies di Sopra, you walk along the Elves' Path, first to a deer enclosure and then on to the waterfall on the Rio di Terento.

The first of the Vandoies di Sopra Waterfalls is still small, but the second, with a drop of 43 metres, is much more impressive. From there, the trail continues to the viewing platform above Vandoies di Sopra and back to the car park via the Rio Vena stream. The hike is also recommended in winter.

Notice: Due to the construction of the Riggertal loop and safety-related works, sections of the Val Pusteria Railway will be closed until January 2026. A rail replacement bus service will be in operation.
