Monte Trumes refers to a few scattered buildings on the sunny side of the lower Val Venosta. It is a small hamlet belonging to Castelbello-Ciardes and is situated on the slopes of Monte Sole, while the other mountain hamlets extend on the other side of the Adige River and the valley, on the slopes of the shadier Monte Tramontana. 20 inhabitants live here above Castelbello and Ciardes.
Monte Trumes (Trumsberg), at 1,300 metres above sea level, is not only located on the Val Venosta High Route, which extends to the Resia Pass with views of the mighty glaciers of the Ortles Alps. The trail follows ancient irrigation channels called "Waale", some dating back to the 16th century, and new paths across the Val Venosta. The small village also lies along several hiking trails, such as the one that takes you from Castelbello via the Platzhöfe farms to Monte Trumes.
Another is the path from Ciardes to San Martino al Monte. This well-known pilgrimage site dedicated to St. Martin is also accessible by cable car. While asparagus, kiwis, and wine grow down in the valley, fruit trees are no longer found here - instead, there are meadows and a beautiful view of the wide valley basin stretching between the Val Venosta and the Merano area.
Further up, the path continues to the 2,000-metre mark, where the Trumes and Stierberg Huts are located. For those wishing to venture higher, we recommend the Valle di Pinalto. It winds its way into the Mastaun Chain, which separates Silandro from the Val Senales. Mt. Cima Vermoi, Mt. Cima di Trumes and Mt. Cima di Fosse are popular mountain tours that become rewarding ski tours.
