Monte Trumes

The small mountain village lies on the Val Venosta High Route, which stretches in several daily stages from Stava to the Passo Resia

Monte Trumes, or Trumsberg in German, refers to a few scattered buildings on the sunny side of the Lower Val Venosta valley. It is a small district belonging to the municipality of Castelbello-Ciardes and can still be found on the slopes of the Monte Sole, while the other mountain hamlets extend on the other side of the Adige River and the valley on the slopes of the shadier Monte Tramontana. 20 inhabitants live here at about 1,300 metres a.s.l. above Castelbello and Ciardes.

Monte Trumes is not only located on the Val Venosta High Route, which extends - with a view on the mighty glaciers of the Ortles Alps - all the way to the Resia Pass. It follows the irrigation channels, some of which date back to the 16th century, and new paths across the Val Venosta. The village also lies along several hiking paths, such as the one that takes you from Castelbello via the Platzhöfe farms to Monte Trumes, or the path from Ciardes to San Martino al Monte. It is the idyllic place of pilgrimage dedicated to St. Martin, which can also be reached by cable car.

In the valley, asparagus, kiwis and wine grow, whereas in Monte Trumes there are no more fruit trees, but meadows and a magnificent view on the wide valley basin between the Val Venosta and the Merano region. The trail continues up to the 2,000 metre mark, where the Stierberg and Trumes Mountain Huts are located. For those who want to climb higher, we recommend the Valle di Pinalto, which winds into the Mastaun Chain that separates Silandro from the Val Senales: Mt. Cima Vermoi and Mt. Cima di Fosse are mountain tours that become wonderful ski tours in winter.
