Curon village

The church steeple of Lago di Resia, round which the ancient centre of Curon was located, is landmark and witness of a defining occurrence in the past.

At 1,520 m asl, there is the village of Curon, located at the eastern border of Lago di Resia, where the Vallelunga branches off the upper Val Venosta. The largest lake of the province of Bolzano emerged from the ancient Lago di Mezzo, which was enlarged in 1950 by the construction of a dam wall in order to provide the powerhouse at Curon with water for the power production. Unmindful the ancient village centre was flooded, the inhabitants had to leave their home and further up, the new Curon village emerged. Also more than 60 years after, the wounds couldn’t be completely healed.

Today the beautiful lake is the main attraction of the village. From Curon you can also go shipping on the MS Hubertus Interregio. If you wish for more action, we recommend you kite surfing, as in the Alpine area Curon is the mekka in this discipline, in which athletes board across the ice. By the way, above the village, there is also a fyling area. Make a tandem flight and see the world from a different perspective. In the surroundings of Curon, there are by the way 200 km of marked hiking trails, moreover the cycle route Via Claudia Augusta stretches by.
