Ganda di Martello

Near Ganda, a pleasant hike begins, leading to the Martello High Route, the Sluder Mountain Hut and the Stallwies inn

After Transacqua at the entrance to the Val Martello, come the farms and houses of Ganda (Gand), another hamlet in the valley. From here, the road branches off, leading uphill to the main village of Meiern. Down in the valley, the Rio Plima stream flows by, and extensive meadows stretch out.

To the south lies Santa Maria alla Fonderia with the well-known Martello Biathlon and Cross-Country Ski Centre. There in winter, you will find a 12-kilometre cross-country ski trail, shooting ranges, a rental shop, and a cross-country ski school. You can also easily reach the Upper Val Martello from here, home to Lake Gioveretto. The Ortles Alps are reflected in the reservoir's waters, appearing close enough to touch from the highest point of the Plima Gorge Trail.

This point is where you have already crossed the suspension bridge and taken a look into the gorge from the viewing platform. Afterwards, the path leads you downhill, first to the Nino Corsi Hut and then to the hikers' car park. Near Ganda, also the hike begins up to the Martello High Route, to the Sluder Mountain Hut and Stallwies. Ideal on hot summer days, clear mountain air and high-altitude sunshine await you there, and you can spend a few hours relaxing in nature.

An alternative for families is the Rona Ranch, with a fishing pond, barbecue area, Shetland ponies and other horses, which also offers riding excursions and all-day treks. In winter, you will find a natural toboggan run in Ganda, starting at Café Hölderle, as well as a place for ice climbing. On the nine-metre-high Martello Ice Tower, you can tackle the vertical at the foot of the Ortles Alps.
