Most people will know Spondigna because of the Posthotel Hirsch, which stands at the roundabout and attracts attention when driving through the valley: During the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, it was the most important post station in the Upper Val Venosta. In 1900, it was extended in a Neo-Baroque style and was finally listed as a protected monument in 1985. "New Spondigna with the Posthotel Hirsch" also adorns a postcard from the turn of the century, delivered to its recipient by the Imperial and Royal Post and Telegraph Office: It is exhibited in the Touriseum in Merano.

The small village on the valley floor by the River Adige is located a few kilometres from Sluderno village and forms the second component locality of Sluderno. The aforementioned roundabout gives you the choice between the state road, which takes you further up into the Val Venosta, or the turn-off into the holiday region at the Ortles. From there, you can reach the Stelvio Pass Road, one of Europe's highest and most famous roads, with its impressive panorama.

Spondigna (Spondinig) itself consists of only a few houses and is divided into New Spondigna and Old Spondigna on the slopes of the Monte Sole. However, the small village has its own railway station, which also serves as a stop for the two neighbouring villages of Prato allo Stelvio and Cengles. The colourful trains of the Val Venosta Railway also transport bicycles, so South Tyrol can be explored on two wheels - in this section, for example, on the Val Venosta Cycle Path.

Mountain bikers prefer the path into the Stelvio National Park or the largely snow-free Monte Sole in the Val Venosta near Spondigna. In the cold season, you can reach all winter sport destinations in the Val Venosta from here, and choose freely between snowshoe tours, tobogganing excursions, and ski days in Trafoi all'Ortles or on the Solda Glacier.
