The historic jewel of S. Valentino, dating back to the 12th century, is Castel Graveccio.
S. Valentino is located in the north-east of the centre of Villandro at 730 m asl. The village is accessible via several hairpin bends, starting from Chiusa. Along this road, you also come across the single-bay of the S. Valentino church with its lateral spire. First mentioned in 1303, it burnt in 1400 and was equipped with a Gothic stellar vault when the sacred building has been reconstructed.
The actual attraction of the village is, though, Castel Graveccio, dating back to 1150. This castle used to be the seat of the Lords of Villandro and later on of the Counts of Tyrol. It can be seen from afar and also from the bottom of the valley, today it hosts an agricultural holding.
Our tip: the chestnut trail, stretching past the Castel Graveccio, is a real experience and ideal for a Sunday afternoon walk.
