World Premiere of the Opera "Ortler"
Featuring South Tyrolean soloists: Andrea Götsch and Bertold Stecher
What drives us to seek the unknown? For the composer from Glurns and Vienna resident Gerd Hermann Ortler, it is the shared dream of paradise. His new composition, Expedition to Paradise, a double concerto for clarinet, trumpet, and orchestra, is dedicated to this quest — featuring two extraordinary soloists: Andrea Götsch from Merano (Vienna Philharmonic) and Bertold Stecher from Mals (Berlin Philharmonic).
With the world premiere of this work, composed especially for them, the South Tyrol Philharmonic performs together with these two soloists for the first time — an evening filled with concentrated South Tyrolean virtuosity.
Present and past meet this evening through Gustav Mahler’s unfinished 10th Symphony. The first movement — composed in Toblach, where Mahler spent his last summers between 1908 and 1910 — is another highlight of the program.
Under the direction of Michael Pichler, the South Tyrol Philharmonic embarks on a musical journey that awakens memories, broadens horizons, and creates new connections — across generations, countries, and times.
