Bicycle mobility in South Tyrol

The expansion of the cycle path network and increased support for taking bicycles on public transport are planned for South Tyrol in the coming years

"South Tyrol cycles" is the name of a campaign in the region aimed at increasingly involving pupils and employees in sustainable mobility. In addition, Bolzano was recently named "Italy's Most Bicycle-Friendly City": The Federazione Italiana Ambiente e Bicicletta (Italian Federation for Environment and Bicycle) justified the award by stating that cycle mobility in Bolzano is comparable to that in Northern European cities. The fact is that a network of cycle paths and bridges for cyclists runs throughout the provincial capital, and it is continuously being expanded.

Increasing attention is also being paid to two wheels outside of urban centres. In the coming years, more free bicycle hire stations and secure parking facilities are to be created, and the ease and convenience of taking bicycles on trains, buses, and cable cars will be improved.

The long-term goals of cycle mobility in South Tyrol are to reduce traffic volume, improve air quality, and promote health. This way, it will also be ensured in the coming years that you can not only explore new cycle paths, but also that experiences on two wheels become safer, and that a cycling experience in South Tyrol can be better combined with the use of local public transport.
