Bike tour to Colle and La Costa

29 km long warm-up tour via the mountain villages near Bolzano and Laives, with an altitude difference of 1,000 metres

Ideal starting point for this tour is the valley station of the Colle Cable Car in the north of Bolzano (parking space and connection to the cycle path network available). We cycle right past the cable car, where the ascent up to Colle starts. The single track asphalt road winds up the mountain - broadleaf forest, vineyards and mixed woodland accompany our route.

At 800 m a.s.l. the first refreshment point is located, Bad St. Isidor, where we take a coffee break. Afterwards we carry on cycling uphill to the village of Colle at 1,050 m a.s.l. and further on towards the Schneiderwiesen meadows. At the junction to Laives (approx. 1,250 m a.s.l.) we turn right.

The flourish descent, past the meadows of the hamlet of La Costa, offers amazing views on the south of South Tyrol. Nearly at the bottom of the valley again we cycle past the settlement of Pineta Monte towards San Giacomo di Laives at the roundabout. The road (partly with cycle lane) proceeds via San Giacomo and the quarter of Oltreisarco back to Bolzano, to our starting point. Avoid to do this tour on hot summer days. The ascent is exposed to the sun!
