Bike tour on Mount Ponente

Mountain bike tour in the Valle Isarco, from Sciaves to Bressanone via the panoramic Monte Ponente and return on the cycle path

Past the church of Velturno we cycle downhill towards Chiusa and the Valle Isarco cycling track.

Our way back - along the Valle Isarco cycling track we return to our starting point Sciaves.

Our round trip starts at Sciaves, where we proceed towards Aica, Fortezza and Varna on the cycle path. At the roundabout before the station we follow the signpost "Kinderdorf", then the small blue sign "St. Cyrill" which leads us steeply uphill to the small St. Cyrill Church, first on an asphalt road with beautiful view on the basin of Bressanone later on cobbled paths (passages to wheel!).

We proceed further to Tiles where we follow the marker no. 10, which leads us to Tecelinga and Gioviniano. Monte Ponente - how this section is called - offers a fantastic view on the facing side of the valley and mountains, like Mt. Plose and the Odle Group. At Gioviniano we proceed further to Velturno, right at the entrance of the village Velturno Castle is located, former summer residence of the prince-archbishops of Bressanone. By the way, it houses a museum of local history which can be visited from Easter until November.

From here we follow the course of the road to the small town of Chiusa, where we come back to Sciaves along the Valle Isarco Cycle Path. The tour can be started at any point along the route. Particularly exhausting is the part up to the St. Cyrill Church.
