MTB tour through the Lasa Valley

The tour leads from Lasa via Parnetz to the marble paths in the Lasa Valley and further into the area of the Stelvio National Park to the Lasa alpine pastures in the shadow of the glaciers.

The tour starts in Lasa. From the centre of the village, we cycle along the cycle path "Via Claudia Augusta" briefly downhill (eastwards) and then turn right towards the district of Obermühlen, where the road to the mountain hamlet of Parnetz starts. We cycle along the road, which follows the wooded slope from about 900 m a.s.l. up to the farmsteads at about 1,200 m a.s.l. After the last farm the path curves back to the forest and the asphalt is replaced by marble gravel.

At about 1,400 m a.s.l. we reach the car park at the top station of the old inclined railway of the marble plants. From here, a gravel road, which has been laid out instead of the abandoned marble railway and has no hiking or biking route markings, leads into the Lasa Valley. At the so-called "Aufleg", which is located below the White Water Quarry where the famous Lasa Marble is mined, the road crosses the valley path no. 5, on which we now cycle into the inner Lasa Valley. The road ascends again noticeably and leads up to almost 1,900 m a.s.l. After the Untere Laaser Alm we follow the signpost "Obere Alm" and reach a wooden hut at the edge of the forest.

This is where the drivable route ends. From here it is possible to walk up the path for about 150 metres to the Obere Lasa Alm (managed mountain hut). The descent follows the same route. One variant starts at the "Aufleg": instead of crossing the track of the former marble railway, we stay on path no. 5, which leads steeply down into the valley: Passing the chapel of St. Martin, we arrive directly at Lasa without cycling via Parnetz.
