The main village of Lasa focuses on slowing down: Paths start directly in the village centre and lead to the surrounding mountain pastures, as well as along the Adige River to peaceful natural spots that do not rely on big attractions. Instead, they are all the more restful and can be enjoyed in profound peace. Views of the marble quarries often accompany excursions on foot or by bike.
Those who would like a guided experience can take part in an adventure tour or marble hike from Marmorplus, which are organised during the warmer months. We also recommend a walk through Lasa village (Laas Dorf). You will be rewarded with a village square paved with marble blocks, small shops, cosy cafés, and narrow alleyways. The parish church on the edge of the village dates from the 12th century and is dedicated to John the Baptist. Its special feature is the apse, which was created entirely from originally brilliant white Lasa marble.
It is no longer brilliant white today, but those who know this detail can take a closer look at its half-columns, eagle, and leaf capitals. A hike to the church hill of St. Sisinius is also worthwhile: The small chapel is one of the oldest churches in the Val Venosta. Around the village, apples and apricots of the Val Venosta valley grow, benefiting from the mild and dry climate.
In high summer, this is celebrated: The "Marble and Apricots" festival takes place, combining culinary delights with high-quality art. The outdoor swimming pool, the Val Venosta Riding and Driving Club, and the Lasa Mountains provide variety, which mountaineers with a head for heights can climb. Some take the opportunity to return to the valley by paraglider.
