The Walther von der Vogelweide Path in Novale di Laion, at the entrance of the Val Gardena valley, reminds of the same-named minstrel who, it is said, comes from this region

Starting point of our autumnal walking tour is the village of Ponte Gardena (Waidbruck) in the Valle Isarco valley. There we take the path no. 35 uphill towards Laion (Lajen). Through the forest and across meadows, past ancient farms, we reach the village of Novale di Laion with the church dedicated to St. Catherine from the 15th century. It is already lunch time and we can choose among several Buschenschank taverns which offer the traditional Törggele dishes now in autumn.

We still walk uphill along the path no. 35 until the Vogelweider Farm, probably the home of the famous minstrel Walther von der Vogelweide. After a visit to the historic building we walk back the short distance to the road of the Val Gardena valley and follow it for approx. 100 m up the valley until the path to Albions branches off on the right side of the road.

Autumnal broadleaf forest, green meadows and the view across the Valle Isarco valley - all this characterises the further course of our hike. After we have reached the beautiful village of Albions, we descend further downhill to Chiusa along the path no. 5. This beautiful medieval little town is definitely worth visiting. For our way back to Ponte Gardena we take the train.
