Sonvigo

In the front Pennes Valley, which extends to the Passo di Pennes and then merges into the Upper Valle Isarco, lies a small hamlet

On the way into the Val Sarentino valley, the road branches off to the left and then leads you up the slope to a mountain village: It is the district of Sonvigo (Aberstückl) with its farms in the meadows all around. The village centre consists of only seven buildings, one of them is the Church of St. Bartholomew and St. Ulrich and another is the little school. This is where people meet in this smallest village of the Sarentino Valley, which lies at an impressive altitude of 1,325 metres a.s.l.

The mighty Mt. Cervina or Punta Cervina watches over: It is also widely known in Merano. And indeed, the mountain village already had a lively connection with Merano centuries ago: A mule track led over the Giogo di Pietramala saddle to the town. Today, the area is well-known among hikers who want to reach Mt. Cervina, the highest peak of the Sarentino Alps, via the saddle and Lake San Pancrazio. The beautiful lake is accessible in 2.5 hours on an easy mountain trail. Afterwards you can tackle the summit or descend via the Antran Mountain Hut and the Lahnerhof.

For families with children, the Sonvigo Legend Trail is a tip. Here, legends were arranged by children for children and "told" in an adventurous way along the path. The Legend Trail brochure with the quiz is available at the entrance at the Wippinger Farm above Sonvigo, before continuing to the Durr Mountain Hut. The adventure also takes you to the gorge of the Sagbach stream. Together with the Felderbach, it forms the mountain waters near the village, idyllic to look at but not to be underestimated. In the past, they caused devastating damage again and again.
