Tesimo village

The historic buildings are characteristic for Tesimo village, which together with Prissiano is called the Castle Village

The village of Tesimo (Tisens Dorf), the main village of the municipality and seat of the town hall, impresses with its sunny location in the low mountain range. The bus stops directly in the centre with the parish church, the information office and the supermarket. Gourmets are in the right place here: An ice cream parlour, a butcher's shop and a pizzeria can be found in the narrow alleys and small streets of Tesimo, right next to the restaurant "Zum Löwen" run by chef Anna Matscher. It is known far beyond the borders, as the self-made star chef is listed in gourmet guides such as the Michelin Guide and is honoured with special awards such as "Chef of the Year".

During a walk through the village, we recommend a stop at the Church of the Assumption of Mary, once built in Romanesque style. Later, it was equipped with Gothic elements. It shows you the family tombs of the counts and the special stained-glass windows of the Augsburg School, which are among the most important in Tyrol. The historic buildings are characteristic for Tesimo, which together with Prissiano is known as the Castle Village. Other paths lead into the surrounding area, such as the International Felt Art Trail, which starts near Tesimo. It is unique in Europe, artworks made of felted sheep's wool are flanking the path through the mixed forest.

In the summer months, a refreshing visit to the public outdoor pool at the campsite of Tesimo with its heated pool is worthwhile, while in autumn sweet chestnuts are present everywhere. Roasted sweet chestnuts, "Keschtn" in local dialect, are part of the Törggele evenings - they are peeled while hot and sometimes topped with farmer's butter. The chestnuts of Tesimo, together with those of Lana, have been famous far and wide since the 15th century. No wonder that every year Chestnut Days are organised between these villages, where this tasty fruit is properly celebrated.
