Ortisei village (St. Ulrich Dorf) is one of the five hamlets that belong to the municipality of Ortisei. If you turn off the state road, you will reach the village centre, above which the baroque parish church dedicated to St. Ulrich stands prominently. This is also where the valley's most famous shopping street begins, lined with numerous shops and small cafés, extending to St. Anthony's Church in the main square. The village is surrounded by the majestic peaks of the Dolomites.
At the edge of the village, where the lifts to the Seceda depart, there is a highlight for families: the Col de Flam Adventure Park with its high-ropes course. Right next to it, the Val d'Anna begins, a pleasant destination for an outing, featuring a playground amidst meadows and a Kneipp facility.
Incidentally, throughout the history of Ortisei, there have been and still are several famous citizens, including the mountaineering legend Luis Trenker, athletes Carolina and Isolde Kostner, and music producer Giorgio Moroder, known for his movie soundtracks, e.g. Flashdance, and for the song "Giorgio by Moroder" by Daft Punk. Meanwhile, in the village centre, the Museum Gherdëina, the Val Gardena Museum, invites you on a journey through the valley and its eventful history.
Its themed sections include, among other things, old wooden toys and Val Gardena painting. This art form also takes centre stage every year in late summer when Ortisei becomes a hub for Val Gardena sculptors, photographers, painters, and woodturners. This is when the UNIKA art fair takes place in the hamlet of Roncadizza, showcasing current works by Val Gardena artists.
