Trafoi all’Ortles

At the bottom of world-famous mountains, there is the village of Trafoi all’Ortles.

In the western corner of South Tyrol at 1,570 m asl, where the mighty Ortles mountain range rises to the sky, the enchanting hamlet Trafoi all’Ortles nestles. The pretty surroundings and an untouched natural scenery are ideal for hikes and mountain bike tours. More than 300 sunny days a year and the breath-taking view of the Alps attract numerous visitors. By the way, Trafoi all’Ortles is located along the road to Passo dello Stelvio, which is the highest trafficable Alpine pass of Italy. It is also a central point in the tri-border region.

Culture passionates can look forward to monasteries, castles, museums and lots of other sites of interest in the surroundings. The Churburg Castle or the monastery of Müstair (CH) are popular excursion destinations and also the the nature park information centres “naturatrafoi” and “aquaprad” are worth seeing.

Particularly striking in winter is the family skiing area at the Ortles mountain. When you ascend by chairlift you are going to catch sight of an astonishingly beautiful mountain panorama. The sun terrace makes you enjoy a perfect view on the so-called “King” Ortles and invites to stay for a little longer. The skiing area offers 10 km of well-groomed slopes snaking from 2,250 m asl down into the village. However, this area is also hometown of the famous alpine skiing athlete Gustav Thöni. No matter if you prefer skiing, snowshoeing, do a horse-drawn sleigh ride, Trafoi makes you winter dreams come true.
