Trafoi Skiing Area

In the Trafoi Skiing Area with its stunning mountain panorama you can follow in the footsteps of the ski champion Gustav Thöni

What is the difference between the small skiing area around the Forcola Mountain Hut and other ski regions? Gustav Thöni! The famous Alpine ski champion was the winner of five World Cups in the Seventies, 24 World Cup races, and a gold and two silver medals in Olympic Winter Games. He made his first steps on the skis right here, in the skiing area of his hometown - still today, it is an insider tip. Today, Gustav Thöni is the director of the Trafoi Ski School which offers group courses, individual ski lessons and a ski kindergarten in the beginners' area in the village.

The Kleinboden Ski Lift starts directly in the centre of Trafoi all'Ortles. Back in 1804, by the way, the chamois hunter "Pseirer Josele" started the first ascent of the mighty Ortles from this place. The lift takes you up to the Forcola Mountain Hut in the Stelvio National Park, to the other ski lifts which take you even higher. Most of the 11 km of ski slopes are considered easy and medium difficult.

There's no snowpark and no funslope, but in return some wonderful destinations for ski tours, snowshoe hikes and toboggan rides. The 5 km long toboggan run follows the famous Passo dello Stelvio Road, and the cross-country ski track takes you to the Sacred Three Fountains, an idyllic pilgrimage chapel. Also worth mentioning is the beautiful ski tour to the Forcola Hut at 2,153 m a.s.l. It has been said that this is the best place to enjoy the panorama on the Ortles Alps.
