Skiing at the foot of Mt. Altissima is possible in the Plan Skiing Area in the Upper Val Passiria, belonging to the Ortler Skiarena carousel.

In a side valley of the Upper Val Passiria, the Valle di Plan, there's the village of Plan at the foot of Mt. Croda del Lago and Mt. Altissima. They are two mountain giants, rising more than 3,400 metres above sea level. The eponymous skiing area, one of the most snowsure areas in South Tyrol, offers 18 km of well-groomed slopes and four lift facilties, taking you up to the Karjoch saddle. One of them is the Grünboden-Express which starts at the edge of the village.
The steepest slope is the 1 km long Wand Slope, a black downhill run - the longest ones are the three downhill runs Grünboden I, Obere Böden I and Karjoch. The family-friendly skiing area features - besides the Murmi Snow Park - also the Plan Ski and Snowboard School which offers carving and snowboard courses, children's courses and private lessons. On closed sections, however, the pros of Alpine skiing train and prepare themselves for the upcoming winter season.
Especially popular - for all age groups and levels - is nighttime skiing on the illuminated slopes of the Gampen Lift. In Plan you can practice any winter sport you like, whether you prefer skiing, ice skating on natural ice, cross-country skiing or tobogganing on the Grünboden toboggan run or the shorter family run in Plan. For more than a decade now, the mountain village has been a soft mobile holiday resort closed to traffic: The Dorfexpress train takes you through the village.
