A picture-book village and high-altitude health resort surrounded by high mountains sits enthroned at the end of the Solda Valley

Mount Zebrù, Gran Zebrù and King Ortles tower almost four thousand metres into the sky like glaciated giants at the end of the Valle di Solda. Against this impressive backdrop lies a holiday resort where a jacket is not out of place even in summer: Solda (Sulden) in the Stelvio National Park. It is a climatic high-altitude health resort at 1,900 m a.s.l., whose uniqueness and location attracted the pioneers of alpinism and winter sports to this remote part of South Tyrol early on.

Three small lakes and the Rio Solda surround the long-stretched village: At the entrance to Solda greets the MMM Ortles, formerly known as the Museum Alpine Curiosa, part of Reinhold Messner's museum project. Next to it is his restaurant "Yak & Yeti". The true Tibetan yaks can be seen on the pastures all around and are brought from the valley station of the Solda Cable Car to the Madriccio pastures during the traditional drive-up of the yaks at the end of June. In the centre of the village, on one side of the Rio Solda, is the primary school of Solda, which houses the Museum of the Ortles Region. On the other side are the Old and New Parish Churches.

At the end of the village and the entire Solda Valley there are also wonderful destinations called Bear Bath and NATURAronda. This is where the lifts start that take you to the Città di Milano Hut, an ideal starting point for tours in the mountain world of King Ortles in summer and to the Solda Skiing Area in winter. Perfectly groomed slopes and rustic ski huts - here the winter season starts earlier and ends later than in many other alpine winter sports resorts. For cross-country skiers there is an altitude track and for tobogganers there is the Pulpito Cable Car connecting run in the ski area, which is regularly converted into a night sledge run, lighting included.
