Campo di Trens village

Campo di Trens - home to the town hall and the name given to the entire municipality after the merger of the surrounding villages

Campo di Trens is a small hamlet along the main road, overlooked by the surrounding localities of Trens, Stilves, and Mules. After the merger of the neighbouring villages, it became the main settlement of the municipality of Campo di Trens. The village appears to merge with Trens and its pilgrimage site located just above it, making the transition between them difficult to distinguish.

The new Campo di Trens sports zone, complete with the Blieger stadium, a beach volleyball court, and a bar, was also recently established here. This part of South Tyrol's Upper Valle Isarco, with Tasso Castle and Pietra Castle, the local tales of the "Freudenfeld" field, which gave its German name to the municipality of Freienfeld, and the wide open spaces of the Vipiteno Moor, is easy to explore on foot. Themed trails such as the Bee Trail and the Roman Path wind through the area.

The local history is particularly interesting: Romans settled in the valley, Bavarians advanced southwards when the Danube border fell, and the Peasants' Wars brought destruction to the area, including Campo di Trens. To the south lies Mules, connected to Trens by a hiking trail. On the road further south there's the gorge known as Stretta dei Sassoni, or Sachsenklemme, where Tyrolean riflemen under the command of Peter Mayr were defeated by French forces during a battle.

This also marks the historical transition from the Upper Valle Isarco into the Valle Isarco, the lower part of the valley, which then widens out towards Bressanone. You can explore the area by bike on the Upper Valle Isarco Cycle Path and then continue on to either the Valle Isarco or the Val Pusteria Cycle Paths. In winter, the three ski resorts of the Upper Valle Isarco are situated around Campo di Trens: Racines-Giovo, Ladurno in the Val di Fleres valley, and Monte Cavallo.
