The tranquil village lies in the wide basin of Vipiteno and is criss-crossed by paths for hiking and walking

Opposite Campo di Trens and the pilgrimage site of Maria Trens, on the other side of the Brennero Motorway, the railway line and the Isarco River, lie the houses of Stilves and the sports area. As is typical in South Tyrolean villages, the local church watches over the buildings. It is dedicated to Saint Peter and adorned with a beautiful ceiling painting by Christoph Brandstätter. Right next door, you will find the public library and, a little further down the road, the bus stop.
A hike along the Kirchsteig path connects the village with the hamlet of Dosso, leading past the Stations of the Cross through the forest. A flatter circular route takes you to Pruno in just over two hours. Tasso Castle is enthroned above the village: It is well worth a visit, impressing with its Green Hall, dungeon and deep moat. As it was built on a rocky hill, it was never conquered.
To the north of Stilves (Stilfes) lies the reed-covered Genalterau wetland area, one of the five protected natural monuments in the municipality of Campo di Trens. By the way, do you know where the name of the municipality Campo di Trens, Freienfeld in German, comes from?
In the "Freudenfeld" (Field of Joy) between Tasso Castle and Pietra Castle, courtly games were once held. In the 17th and 18th centuries, they were part of courtly conversation and served as a form of relaxation from strict etiquette. In winter, you can do some laps on the natural ice rink with skate hire at the edge of the forest. The ice bar there provides a nice place to take a break.
