The "Dorf" (village), as it is known, is centrally located in the Valle di Luson near Bressanone. Luson, the main village of the municipality, extends from the front part of the valley with the hamlets of Croce, Monte, and Ausseralpe to the rear section with Valletta and Pezzè. Life here is tranquil: The Church of St. Kilian, the school and municipal building, the fire station and a supermarket form the centre. One path is simply called Via Paese (village lane), another is named after the former bishop Joseph Gargitter, and a third bears the name of the small Kaserbach stream.
Even today, the Easter Sepulchre is set up in the church every year during Lent. With playgrounds for different age groups, a beach volleyball court, a tennis court and a football pitch, farm stay holidays, nature and family hotels, and the natural bathing pond in summer, Luson village (Lüsen Dorf) has made a name for itself as a holiday destination for families.
The bathing pond is located at the northern edge of the village and is fed with fresh spring water from the Luson Alp. This high alpine pasture, which merges seamlessly with the Rodengo Alp, forms an expansive area stretching from around 1,800 to 2,300 metres in altitude. Relatively flat paths, wooden huts dotted across the meadows, and, in winter, cross-country ski trails, winter hiking paths and toboggan runs characterise South Tyrol's longest continuous alpine pasture.
The Valle di Luson focuses on sustainability and offers time: time to consciously experience nature and find peace. This is evident in the public transport that serves many hiking trailheads, in the opportunity to refill your water bottle at numerous mountain springs, and in the appeal to personal responsibility to carry your own rubbish back down to the valley for proper disposal.
