A narrow mountain road leads you to the sports area, to Montano and Frella, and finally up to the Rodengo Alp. The two settlements are made up of stately farmhouses that nestle on the slopes above the main village of Villa. Looking down there, you can see the church and the adjacent Rodengo Castle overlooking the Rienza Gorge. It can be visited during the warmer months, where you can be transported into the legendary world of King Arthur by the Yvain frescoes.
Above the hamlets, on the Rodengo Alp, is the starting point for the Creation Trail, with the motto "See - Feel - Marvel". The Forest Adventure Trail, on the other hand, begins at the Ahner bus stop in Montano. With a walking time of 40 minutes, it is not too long and is therefore particularly popular with families. It features interesting stops, including a pond, tree trunks for balancing, and plenty of "Tschurtschen" - the local name for pine cones.
In Montano (Ahnerberg) and Frella (Fröllerberg), there are also some charming, simple sacred buildings. These include the chapel at the Scheiber farm in Montano, which was built in 1867 and has a small late-Baroque altar. The Putzer Church is also worth seeing: Its altarpiece depicts the Holy Family and was created by the artist Christian Renzler around 1770 AD.
In winter, you can either enjoy the tranquillity of the Rodengo Alp on the cross-country ski tracks and on the winter hiking paths, or try out the slopes in the Gitschberg Jochtal Skiing Area. Both destinations are easily accessible. And if you are in the mood for some culture and cuisine, Bressanone, with its arcades and the Christmas Market, is a worthwhile excursion.
