The first or northern part of the 2,300 ha alpine pasture area known as the Rodengo and Luson Alp in the Valle Isarco, more precisely the area from the Zumis car park, is called Rodengo Alp. It is located along the Konfinweg path in the area of the Roner Mountain Hut and the Starkenfeld Mountain Hut, in the municipality of Rodengo, and occupies about 350 ha.
The gentle alpine meadows of the Rodengo Alp - Rodenecker Alm in German, Alpe di Rodengo in Italian - with its refreshment stops such as the Ronerhütte (1,832 m a.s.l.), Rastnerhütte (1,931 m a.s.l.) or Starkenfeldhütte (1,930 m a.s.l.) attract many hikers in summer who appreciate the flat hiking trails on the high plateau. From the Herol, Tulper-Gampis, Oberflitt, Schweiger Böden and Petschied car parks, on the other hand, you can reach the wide alpine pastures of the Luson Alp, which occupy the remaining 90%.
In winter, the Rodengo and Luson Alp becomes a popular destination for cross-country skiers, winter hikers and ski tourers who appreciate the remote location. From here you have a wonderful view on the Zillertal Alps, the Grossglockner, the "King of the Eastern Alps", the Odle Group, the Brenta Group as well as the Ötztal and Stubai Alps.
