By the way, the name and origin stories of Kaiserschmarrn are linked to Emperor Franz Joseph I. One story tells that when the dessert was first served to Empress Sisi in 1854, it fell apart. It was then rededicated to Emperor Franz Joseph I.
Ingredients for 2 people:
- 100 g flour
- 200 ml milk
- 3-4 eggs
- 1 pinch of salt
- 1 tsp sugar (optional)
- 1 drop of oil (for the batter)
- vegetable oil or butter for the pan
- apple sauce or jam (for serving)
6 steps for preparation:
- Put the flour and milk in a bowl and mix into a smooth batter.
- Then add the eggs, and salt and sugar if desired.
- Heat a little vegetable oil or butter in a frying pan and pour in the batter.
- Cook the batter over a medium heat until the underside is golden brown, then flip it over.
- Using a spatula, cut it into quarters, turn them, and continue to cook briefly.
- Next, use two forks to tear it roughly into pieces and fry them lightly once more.
If you like, you can serve the Kaiserschmarrn with apple sauce or jam – both are delicious, it just comes down to personal preference. A little icing sugar is also a great addition!
