MTB tour to the Prato Piazza

Our MTB tour leads us through the Val di Landro across the Prato Piazza down to Braies Vecchia and Dobbiaco Nuova

Beautiful round trip in a varied landscape on good forest and cycle paths in the Fanes-Senes-Braies Nature Park: At the train station of Dobbiaco the cycle route through the Valle di Landro starts. The valley connects Dobbiaco with Cortina d'Ampezzo. After about 2 km we reach the beautiful Lake Dobbiaco, on whose bank the cycle route leads further into the valley. Following the upper course of the Rienza river we reach Lake Landro. After the lake we have to drive on the Alemagna-Road (SS51) for a short section and reach the hamlet of Carbonin.

At the junction to Misurina / Tre Cime we keep to the right (towards Passo Cimabanche / Cortina) and after about 500 metres the forest road to the Prato Piazza meadows branches off on the right. Now the ascent is noticeable for the first time. 10 bends and 550 metres in altitude have to be mastered until we reach the highest point. The view on Monte Cristallo and the Croda Rossa d'Ampezzo, which dominates the alpine landscape of the Prato Piazza, opens already during the ascent. After having reached the top, we continue on a flat gravel path for about 3 km which leads from the Vallandro Mountain Hut to the Prato Piazza Inn.

It is not without reason that this area is one of the most beautiful in the Dolomites of the Val Pusteria valley. Now the descent follows the asphalted mountain road down to Ponticello in Braies Vecchia. We continue on the Via Braies road to the exit of the valley, where we turn into the "Pusterbike" Cycle Path towards Dobbiaco. Comfortably and smoothly uphill we cycle the last kilometres of our round trip which leads us back to our starting point again.
