A hike along the charming farm trail through meadows and chestnut groves beneath the Sciliar

You might wonder where the somewhat unusual name of the trail, Oachner Höfeweg (that's to say Aica di Fiè Farm Trail) comes from. However, "Oacha" is simply the local dialect term for Aica di Fié, which easily explains it. The route follows old cart tracks and parish roads, known as "church paths" (Kirchsteige), which have been cleared and linked together.
The walk takes you through a landscape deeply shaped by farming. We pass old farmsteads, cross a suspension bridge over a ravine near the Fingerhof farm, and find benches at various viewpoints that invite us to pause. An ideal starting point for a hike on the Oachner Höfeweg is Presule Castle. From there, we follow the signs to the small church of Santa Caterina di Fié.
There are also opportunities to shorten the route or to join and leave it at different points. The route shown on our map takes about 90 to 100 minutes in each direction. Some of the farms we pass are traditional farm taverns (Buschenschänke) that treat guests to South Tyrolean specialities. It is well worth making a stop at one of these to try some homemade dishes and juices!
