In South Tyrol, minigolf courses are often combined with playgrounds and designed as destinations for outings
Whether you call it a game of skill or a sport of precision, one thing is certain: Minigolf is simply fun. All you need is a club, a ball and a scorecard to keep track of your points. And just like that, the first round on hole 1 can begin. The idea came from Swiss landscape architect Paul Bongni. In the 1950s, he observed golfers and wanted to create a standardised course for everyone.
He developed a project, filed a patent for it and, as early as 1953, opened the first minigolf course in Locarno on Lake Maggiore. The first course in Germany followed in 1955 in Traben-Trarbach, and in 1959, Italy hosted the first European Minigolf Championship.
In South Tyrol, you will also find numerous places to play minigolf. The sport is particularly popular in the Merano area, where there are dedicated courses in Nalles, Lagundo, Naturno, Scena and Tirolo village. Other courses can be found, for example, in Terento on the Val Pusteria Sun Road, and in Maranza in the Valle Isarco, as well as in Termeno on the Wine Road, and at the shores of Lake Caldaro. In Bolzano, the "Ahoi" minigolf course on the Talvera Meadows invites you to play a round - a popular green meeting spot with a playground and a café.
