The Puez and Sella Groups seem to embrace the small village of Colfosco: It is the highest settlement in the Alta Badia
Colfosco (Kolfuschg), Calfosch in Ladin, is situated at 1,645 metres above sea level at the foot of the Passo Gardena mountain pass. Its alpine location on the route from the Alta Badia to the Val Gardena immediately brings to mind hikes, via ferratas, and mountain bike routes, imposing rock walls and cosy huts, and you would be right. The paths lead to the Col Pradat, the viewpoint beneath the mighty Sassongher, to Lake Ciampac, and onto the vast plateaus of the Gardenaccia.
In the valley, the Colfosco Adventure Park awaits adventurers of all ages. The park at the entrance to the village consists of five different courses that stretch between huge larch trees and are accessible during the summer months. In Colfosco, there are also historic buildings such as the listed farmhouses Sorà and Zecca da Ruatsch, and the Parish Church of San Vigilio.
This late-Gothic small church in front of the Sella Group is a popular photo subject. In winter, the gondola lift to the Passo Gardena starts in the small hamlet of Colfosco: The slopes there are also part of the Alta Badia Skiing Area, the setting for the annual men's Ski World Cup.
It covers a large part of the landscape around the Sella Group here. In addition to the ski slopes, there are several cross-country ski tracks and two toboggan runs that are also part of it.
