Redagno, on the edge of the Monte Corno Nature Park, are protected by the twin peaks of Corno Nero and Corno Bianco
A vast gorge separates Redagno (Radein) from the neighbouring village of Aldino, although both belong to the same municipality: the Bletterbach Gorge, also known as Rio delle Foglie Gorge, recognisable from afar by its colourful rock layers. It cuts up to 400 metres deep through the Monte Regolo high plateau and continues as the Rio Nero Gorge below Aldino.
From the visitor centre in Aldino, you can descend into the gorge with a safety helmet - either on your own or as part of a guided geological walk. In Redagno, however, a museum is dedicated to the GEOPARC, the "Grand Canyon of South Tyrol". Housed in the Peter Rosegger House, it is aptly named the Redagno GEOMuseum. On display are fossilised Claraia shells and the tracks of a prehistoric land-dwelling reptile reptile: Phalangichnus perwangeri.
As far back as the 1920s, the physicist Max Planck appreciated this unique area and spent his holidays here. Thanks to its proximity to the Monte Corno Nature Park, hikes will lead you through an unspoilt natural landscape, for instance, to the Passo Oclini, a mountain pass in the Fiemme Dolomites that becomes a ski resort in winter, particularly popular with beginners.
If you want to swap your skis for something else without missing out on the wonderful winter landscape, the snowshoe hike to the Passo Cugola or the short and long Oclini panoramic cross-country ski trails, both at the Passo Oclini (Jochgrimm), are suitable alternatives.
