Ulfas, or Ulvas, is a hamlet in the municipality of Moso in Passiria, passed by several hikes. Those seeking peace and hiking enthusiasts can take a deep breath here: You can start the multi-day tour on the Merano High Route here, explore the Gruppo di Tessa Nature Park in the mighty Texel Group, and climb the Cima Matatz, a panoramic summit.
From Plata, the hamlet on the slope opposite Stulles, a road leads uphill to the meadow clearing on the slope of the Texel Group, where the farms of Ulfas stand. They are called Christelegut, Martergut, Veitenjosgut, and Michelegut. Above the group of farms are the Upper and Lower Ulfas Hut (Obere und Untere Ulfaser Alm). They are suitable for a family hike with a break at a mountain hut with a playground. When there is snow, this path becomes a beautiful winter hike.
The Ulfas Waalweg path also leads past the huts through the spruce and larch forest of Montaccio and Ulfas. The rhythmic sound you hear amidst the vibrant life of the forest is the Waalschelle: If the bell rings regularly, it means that the water in the ancient irrigation channel, the Waal, is flowing without obstacles. The trail begins at the exit of the village and is well signposted.
When autumn arrives, the traditional inns of Moso in Passiria invite you to enjoy yourself: The "Farmhouse Kitchen in the Upper Val Passiria" takes place during the culinary weeks from the end of September to mid-October. There you can try traditional dishes such as "Muas" and buckwheat Riebl or enjoy newly interpreted delicacies such as boletus dumplings and saddle of venison.
