Pieve di Marebbe

The quiet village on the south-western flank of Mt. Plan de Corones is known for its excellent regional products

Only four kilometres, just a few minutes' drive, separate Pieve di Marebbe (Enneberg Pfarre) from the main village of San Vigilio, and yet the two could hardly be more different. While San Vigilio di Marebbe is considered the lively centre of the Val Badia valley, with its ski lifts and restaurants, a peaceful calm prevails in Pieve di Marebbe. The village stretches across a sunny slope.

Above the village lies the Plan de Corones hiking and skiing area with its mountain museums. Old farmhouses and a historic village centre define the character of Pieve di Marebbe. In the historic lanes, the rectory, the school and the village church stand side by side. It is the oldest parish in the valley: First documented in the 14th century, the church, as a Marian pilgrimage site, long shaped the religious life in the Val Badia. The village probably owes its name to it.

The mountain village is considered the cradle of Ladin culture and a place for connoisseurs. Agriculture shapes life here, so you can buy products such as mountain cheese, South Tyrolean Speck and honey directly from the farm. All around, a network of hiking trails and mountain bike routes leads you through the impressive Fanes-Senes-Braies Nature Park.

It is a world of Dolomite legends and traditional mountain huts that invite you to stop for a bite to eat. And if you do feel like skiing, shopping or cultural activities, San Vigilio and the town of Brunico are just a short drive away. A public bus also runs between the villages, mostly on an hourly basis.
