Vila di Sopra

Vila di Sopra with its small “Talile” valley is the starting point for tours in the Vedrette di Ries-Aurina Nature Park

The mountain village of Vila di Sopra is the largest hamlet in the municipality after the main village of Perca. The houses nestle on the slope and are arranged around St. Nicholas' Church. Another church is a special destination for those interested in history: the Lerchen Chapel at the entrance to the village with its grotesque paintings. Its walls are decorated with delicate tendrils, figures of animals and people, fantastical hybrid creatures and architectural elements.

The Vedrette di Ries-Aurina Nature Park is easily accessible from here, as the "Talile" - the Valle di Vila - is already within this protected area. In this small valley, the Haidacher Hut produces its own butter and South Tyrolean mountain cheese. Restored old fences along the paths and rustic huts characterise the landscape. The Lercher Hut is also a popular destination: In summer, it provides an e-bike charging station, while in winter, it becomes the starting point for a toboggan run.

The multi-hour mountain tour to Mt. Montone, which starts above Vila di Sopra (Oberwielenbach) and requires sure-footedness, is more challenging. The reward is a magnificent view of the Val Pusteria and its mountain scenery. It is also worth making a detour to the Gönner Hut, just below the 2,000-metre mark, which was voted "South Tyrol's Most Popular Hut" a few years ago.

In winter, the area is ideal for quiet winter walks. Those looking for more variety will find it in the valley: In Perca, the lifts take you directly to the Plan de Corones Skiing Area, and in the nearby town of Brunico, the Christmas Market attracts visitors with its scents, lights and delicacies.
