Well-groomed trails and Lake Gioveretto, a high-alpine reservoir, define the head of the Val Martello
The head of the Val Martello is a place of particular natural beauty, home to several alpine huts and hiking destinations. The Livi Hut, the Genziana Hut, the Martello Hut and the Nino Corsi Hut are located in this high-alpine area, where ibex, chamois and marmots roam. From Santa Maria alla Fonderia (Maria in der Schmelz), the road leads uphill to the hikers' car parks at Lake Gioveretto. The glacial giants of the Ortles Alps are reflected in its waters.
The lake is the starting point for the Plima Gorge Trail, which leads up to the Nino Corsi Mountain Hut. If you want to climb a summit: Mount Dosso di Peder is relatively easy to ascend and rewards you with a sweeping panorama. It is located a 50-minute hike above the Livi Hut.
The mountain tour to the Cima Rossa di Martello or to the glacier at Mt. Cevedale is more demanding, but both destinations - once you reach the top - are well worth the effort.
In winter, Martello di Dentro (Hintermartell) is transformed and becomes a popular destination for cross-country skiers - with the Martello Nordic Ski Centre - for snowshoe hikers and for ski tourers. At the waterfalls at the head of the valley and the Konzentschatter Waterfall, you can, however, watch ice climbers as they seek purchase on the ice with crampons and ice axes.
