Snowshoe hike to the Lyfi Mountain Hut

The Malga Lyfi mountain hut (2,170 m) is considered a classical destination for snow-shoe tours in the upper Val Martello.

We start our tour at the parking space at the head of the Val Martello, underneath the Enzian tavern the path branches off to the Enzianalm/Malga Enzian mountain hut (path no. 8). We follow this path, leading past the venue of the Christmas Market of the Val Martello and traverse the Pedertalbach/Rio Valle Peder river. This is where on the left the path no. 39 starts to the Peder Stieralm mountain hut. Now it's high time to wear our snow-shoes, as the path is rather steep and not beaten. It is a rather rough ascent, but after 300 m of altitude in one go we reach the highest point of the snow-shoe tour, the Peder Stieralm at 2,250 m asl.

We continue on path no. 35 towards the Malga Lyfi mountain hut. The clearings in the forest make us admire the peaks of the Ortles mountain range in the rear Val Martello valley and make us enjoy this rather easy section. At the mountain hut we stop for a drink, for the way back we take the forested trail no. 8, on which we reach the parking space without further efforts. You can also reach the Malga Lyfi via the forested path no. 8.
