Snowshoe hike in the Valle San Silvestro valley

This easy snowshoe hike takes us to the area of the San Silvestro Mountain Hut at about 1,800 m a.s.l., framed by the peaks of Mt. Corno di Fana and Mt. Strickberg

From Dobbiaco (Toblach), the road leads into the Valle San Silvestro valley (Silvestertal), past the village of Valle San Silvestro (Wahlen), to the car park at the beginning of the hiking routes. Here our tour starts, we walk into the valley. After 200 metres, path no. 1 branches off from the asphalt road, which is also signposted as the snowshoe hiking route "Silvestertalrunde".

Through the valley surrounded by coniferous forests, we walk steadily slightly uphill through the snow. After about 3 km the valley curves and with it the path towards north and the forest opens up. In front of us are the snowy meadows of the San Silvestro Mountain Hut (Silvesteralm).

The mountain hut, which is closed in winter, is on the other side of the stream. There is no place to stop for refreshments here in the cold season, so it is advisable to take some food with you. We were able to enjoy a quiet, almost untouched winter landscape, in which the sporting performance stood rather in the background.
