Lappago combines nature and culture - experienced at Lake Neves in the mountains and at the Water Museum in the village centre
The mountain village of Lappago lies at the head of the water-rich Valle di Selva dei Molini. The upper section of this valley is called Valle di Lappago. It appears like a postcard from another era: Surrounded by the Zillertal Alps, clear mountain air, alpine pastures, and old farmsteads.
It is divided into the hamlets of Lappago di Sotto (Lower Lappago), Lappago di Sopra (Upper Lappago), and Cesa (Zösen), whose old farmsteads nestle on the surrounding mountain slopes. Here you are, so to speak, enjoying a summer retreat, because at over 1,400 metres above sea level, even the hottest summer days begin with an invigorating fresh breeze. Two cultural sights are found in the village centre: the parish church, a small mountain church with a beautiful ceiling painting, and the "Magic of Water" Museum in the basement of the rectory next door.
The museum impressively tells of the life-giving and destructive power of water. It marks the end point of the Selva dei Molini Valley Trail, which leads you to the main village of Selva dei Molini. Several water-themed trails to the natural attractions around Lappago (Lappach) also start from the museum: The well-maintained path through the Lappago Gorge leads to several waterfalls.
There, ice climbers are active in winter. High above Lappago sits Lake Neves, the construction of which shaped the village's history several decades ago. A toll road leads to the impressive dam, where the panoramic Neves High Route begins. In winter, the area is reserved for ski tourers.
