Our starting point is the village of Soprabolzano (Oberbozen) on the Renon high plateau. To reach it we take the Renon Cable Car in Bolzano up to Soprabolzano. From here we start our tour towards Collalbo, past the beautiful Lake Costalovara. Along this first section of our trip there is a bit more traffic. We proceed via Longomoso down to Longostagno, past the Church of Maria Saal and Monte di Mezzo, and take a short look on the Renon Earth Pyramids.
Longostagno (Lengstein) is the last village on the Renon, the road becomes narrower here. Due to the descent it's really fun to cycle this section and the view on the Dolomites with the impressive Sciliar Massif is gorgeous. The road runs past a few farms and the small St. Verena Church. The next village is Sant'Ingenuo which is already a part of the municipality of Barbiano (Barbian) what is our next village on our tour. Now a noticeable ascent leads us until Villandro (Villanders). And the following downhill run through vineyards to Chiusa (Klausen) is a real treat after this effort.
We enjoy a short rest in the beautiful old town of Chiusa before we start to cycle back to Bolzano on the Valle Isarco cycle track. It partly runs through tunnels and across bridges along the old rail route, on the last section to Prato all'Isarco (Blumau) artworks are shown. This cycle tour is suited well for bikers with a bit of training and gives also time to enjoy nature, on condition that you also take the cable car up to the Renon to avoid the really hard ascent at the beginning. Sunny autumnal days are ideal for this bicycle tour, when the guest houses and farm inns along the Chestnut Trail (Keschtnweg) - which crosses the route - offer traditional Toerggele specialities.
