Snowshoe hike to the Jakobsstöckl chapel

After an overnight stay at the Kreuzwiesenhütte di Luson (mountain hut) we decide to make an excursion to the small chapel Jakobsstöckl at 2,191 m asl by snowshoes.

This snowshoe tour is quite easy and also not too long. We start at the Kreuzwiesenhütte and walk through fresh powder snow towards Longiarù (Campill, 2,043 m asl) and further cross country until we reach the marker no. 2 which leads us to the Astalm mountain hut and the so-called Jakobsstöckl chapel (2,030 m asl). By the way: near the Astalm the Valle di Luson passes into the Val Badia. Arrived at the Jakobsstöckl we have a gorgeous panoramic view on the Plose and the Sasso Putia (Peitlerkofel). The chapel is surrounded by a wonderful snowy landscape, fantastic!

Near the Jakobsstöckl (2,026 m asl) a summit cross is situated which is our next goal. Also from here the view is incredible! After a small picnic we start our way back towards the Kreuzwiesenhütte along the same route. This tour is the continuation of the "Snowshoe tour to the Kreuzwiesenalm". Those who want to extend the hike can walk further to the Glittner Joch: Starting at the parking space in the small village of Valletta (Flitt) you reach the Jakobsstöckl along the path no. 2, via the Genaider Alm and Astalm. This 4 km long tour takes about 1.5 hours, 400 altitude metres have to be done.
